India stone is a natural paving stone for patios and pool decks, and it comes in cool blues as well as warm golds and tans. You may know it as Indian stone. Our India stone aisle has ten products, and every color comes as natural pieces and as oversized slabs. The aisle also has precision cut pavers and step treads. Choose the color you want to see from your back door every evening, and then choose the cut that fits the ground under your patio.

If you have looked for India stone at the hardware store and come home with nothing, we sell it in three colors. We are Rockhouse Stone Company, a 7-acre stone yard in Hot Springs Village with Bennett Brothers of Hot Springs heritage since 1972. On our yard you see the actual stone and pick the pieces you want before you buy.

The three India stone colors and where each one fits

Blue Natural India Stone shows cool grays and deep blues. It is a favorite for pool surrounds and contemporary designs, and it stands up to the weather and keeps its color. If you have been searching for blue Indian stone, this is the one.

Jurassic Natural India Stone is the warmest of the three colors. It mixes earthy golds and oranges with deep tans, and the patterns vary through the stone. Pick Jurassic when you want warm color under your feet.

Autumn Mist Natural India Stone pairs warm tans with soft grays, and fossil-like mineral markings show across the stone. It suits patios and garden walkways. Its mix of warm and cool tones puts it between the other two colors. It works well when Blue feels too cool for your house and Jurassic feels too warm.

Start with Blue for a contemporary house. For a warm patio, look at Jurassic and Autumn Mist side by side, because one leans gold and the other leans gray.

Cut pavers for concrete and for dry-set patios

India Stone Precision Cut Paving comes in two thicknesses, and the right one depends on what is under your patio. These precision cut pavers are the India stone pavers with straight edges.

The 1 inch cut keeps a consistent one inch from piece to piece. It is the paver for laying over existing concrete, and it suits a straight-edged path. If you have a plain concrete patio now, this is the cut to look at first.

The 2 inch cut is the paver for a dry-set patio. It also suits a path with heavy foot traffic, such as the path from the driveway to the back door. Tell us which base you have when you call, and we will check the thickness against it before we work out your count.

Choosing stone for a pool deck

Blue is the color we point you to first for a pool deck. Pick between the two cuts above by what is under the deck today. Ask us which colors the cut pavers come in when you call, and we will tell you what we have on the yard that week.

To size the deck, measure its outside edge as one rectangle and multiply the length by the width. Then subtract the pool, because the water takes no stone.

Say your pool measures 16 by 32 feet and you want a deck 4 feet wide on every side. The outside edge comes to 24 by 40 feet, or 960 square feet, and the pool takes up 512 of those. That leaves 448 square feet of stone for the deck. If one end of the deck is wider than the rest, measure the extra strip as its own rectangle and add it to the total.

Oversized slabs for a patio with fewer seams

All three colors also come as oversized slabs. A large slab means fewer seams across a patio. The Blue slabs are Indian limestone. Come see the slabs and the natural pieces on the yard, and pick the sizes that fit your layout. If you are weighing India stone against the other slabs we carry, start with our post on patio slabs.

Step treads that match your patio

India Stone Natural Step Treads are thick slabs with a consistent depth for steps, and they match an India stone patio. Measure the width and the depth of each step when you plan the patio, and we will add the treads to the same count.

How many square feet your patio takes

We sell India stone by the square foot, and the one exception in the aisle is a stone fire pit that we sell by the piece. The aisle lists today's price for each stone by the square foot. To find your square footage, measure the length and the width of the patio in feet. Then multiply the two numbers. A patio 12 feet by 16 feet comes to 192 square feet.

For an L-shaped patio, split the shape into two rectangles and add their areas together. A side area 6 feet by 8 feet adds 48 square feet to that 192, and the patio comes to 240 square feet. If you mix oversized slabs with cut pavers, measure each area on its own and tell us which stone goes where.

Step treads follow the same math. Four steps that each measure 4 feet wide and 1 foot deep come to 16 square feet of treads. Add those to the 240 square feet of patio, and the job comes to 256 square feet in all.

Send us the numbers, and we will work out the material for free. We check the count with you before anything leaves the yard.

Contractors, we deliver the stone straight to your jobsite, and that saves you the quarry run and the wear on your truck. Tell us the jobsite address and the day you need the stone. For a job beyond the local area, we coordinate the freight. If you buy for more than one job, send the numbers for each jobsite, and we will work out each count on its own.

What to bring when you come to the yard

India stone is one of many stones on our yard in Hot Springs Village. Bring a photo of your house or a sample of your trim color, and hold it next to each color before you choose. Bring your measurements too, because we can work out the square feet while you stand next to the stone you like. You can also pick the pieces for the spots that matter most to you, such as the landing at the back door.
